Extremely well researched and laugh-out-loud funny....Kent is a gifted storyteller

I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts. Kent seems to go above and beyond to research episodes compared to many other podcasts in the genre. I kind of like the fairly conversational format, although I feel like the tangents can become long and tedious. I wouldn’t say Kent and co are unfunny, but I also don’t think they’re quite as funny as they seem to think. I also think Kent’s takes can be so backwards, or maybe just out of touch, that they can be a little grating. Overall I’d still say it’s worth a listen.

Longtime TCK listener. I listen on Patreon (SO worth the money if you’re ever considering it). I love Kent and his work so much that I decided to pop over here and write a review. Kent is so witty, so funny, so real, and SO great at what he does. The amount of research and care he puts into every episode absolutely blows me away. The whole team is so great. I’ve listened to A LOT of true crime podcasts over many years and nothing touches TCK.

Intentionally deciding to blend ‘True Crime’ + ‘Comedy’ initially sounded like a group chat discussion that should be subpoenaed. I had a feeling it’d either be brilliant… or evidence. Well, the verdict is in on True Crime Kent: brilliant. What could possibly go wrong? Statistically — Everything. And yet, here we are. “Let’s make homicide hilarious”. Bold strategy. Terrible optics. It’s the kind of idea pitched right before someone says, “Wait, hear me out”, and ends in a PR disaster of epic proportions. Yet, defying all logic, good judgement, and probably several laws of podcast physics, Kent and the team at TCK execute it flawlessly. Not all podcasts that seem like a recipe for a public apology video are successful, but you’ll quickly come to realize that TCK gives off “best podcast ever made” vibes with clever storytelling, impeccable comedic timing and just enough moral panic to keep things spicy. Living in a time where everything seems to require a trigger warning, a waiver or a therapist on standby, I applaud TCK for being unapologetically authentic to their brand of humour (in other words, buckle up). It’s smart, laugh-out-loud funny, twisted, ridiculously entertaining and maintains a surprising level of respect for victims of crime + innocent people affected by the crossfire. For each case, Kent’s countless hours of in-depth research from every reputable source imaginable, along with his full commitment to the podcast’s premise, is what makes TCK pure genius. Kent, Joe & Jess have it down to a fine science & deliver every episode with the perfect combination of chronologically researched factual information, Devil Dog southern charm, wit and incredibly hilarious dark humour that’ll leave you wondering if finding it so funny has earned you an express ticket straight to hell. It’s sharp. It’s dark. It makes you question if your moral compass is on the fritz in a way that feels… intentional. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted in a podcast (and so much more). Five stars. Zero remorse. If you haven’t already checked out TCK’s podcast & subscribed to Kent’s Patreon (@Kent Chungus), take a long, hard look in the mirror & ask yourself why you’re intentionally depriving yourself of happiness 😉

Just listening to the Steven Avery episodes. I saw the original “documentary” and was sure of Avery’s innocence. But after listening to your in depth reporting, I realize I was fooled. Keep in mind, I am an elderly female liberal, just this side of communist, and always will be. I am embarrassed by what these filmmakers did to ruin lives and put unfounded outrage into viewers. But their actions are NOT because they were ‘liberals’. They’re just manipulative and devious people who should have been thoroughly vetted before that garbage was aired. And Joe, I think you’re awesome and an excellent companion commenter for Kent, and I get your frustration with defense lawyers in the face of overwhelming evidence, but our system doesn’t work without them. I hope none of us ever needs one, but if you do, you’ll have one. All that said, thank you both, and Jess too, for producing a show that I eagerly anticipate above all others!

Kent I believe in my heart of hearts that you are definitely a GOAT. I love your content, I love listening to you and Jack, Joe, and Jess. My favorites are with Jack due to the dark humor y’all bring out in each other. Makes the days a little easier. Keep them coming.

Kent has a unique sense of humor but one that definitely works for me. The revolving co-hosts play so well off of him. The research is phenomenal…. up there with Last Podcast on the Left and Small Town Murder. One of my favorites!

I have so much respect for Kent (and Jack Luna) for their self reflection, accountability, and honesty with 1159. Became a fan mid way last year (2025) but I'm an even bigger fan now. The thorough research really comes through with just the perfect amount of humor to break up the heaviness.

I’m a super liberal gal originally from the South and I’m enjoying the hell out of this podcast! It’s like if any of my good natured uncles took the time to read a book and speak with some actual knowledge on a subject. I appreciate the humor, honesty, and point of view. I look forward to hearing your take on Catherine Knight and Columbine especially after I finish the Donner Party. Hope you’ll consider BTK, what weird bastard that guy is.

Love the eps with Jack, bring back the Jack intros pleeeease. Joe is a great addition, love the accents, but he does spend a lot of time repeating exactly what Kent just said which can get a little tedious. Keep up the good work, love you guys and appreciate how consistent you are with releasing eps

I’ve listened to all the great true crime podcasts over the years…and this one really is the best. Kent is so well researched with each case, and the dark humor actually has me laughing out loud. The southern accent is just the cherry on top. The co-hosts, Joe, Jack and Op are each equally amazing. These guys (and Jess!) have made the best crime podcast I’ve heard so far. 10/10 - 100% - A+++++

I can’t remember the last time I laughed out loud so much. I had to spend the weekend painting my bedroom and my family kept saying “whats so funny!?” I got so tickled when you guys were talking about the half haircut paranoia of a tragic event made me laugh until I had tears in my eyes. I found my new favorite podcast! I just moved to Kentucky too and LOVE Drop Dead Fred!!!

I absolutely love this podcast and was excited when I heard the area I live in on the Donner party part 3 episode. Thank you for going so in depth on not just the crime stories but episodes such as the Donner party. This podcast makes my workday so much better.
